Outpouring of support for aged couple running ‘Baba ka Dhaba’ in Delhi after viral video

A video of the hardships being endured by the aged couple running the 'Baba Ka Dhaba' eatery in South Delhi prompted an outpouring of support on social media.

In the video, 80-year-old Kanta Prasad shows dal, curry, parathas kept in large dishes, ready to serve at around 30 to 50 rupees per plate.

A widely shared video of a tearful aged owner of a small eatery in South Delhi, talking about how he had no customers, prompted an outpouring of support.

The video which was shared on multiple social media platforms was recorded at a small eatery called ‘Baba Ka Dhaba’ in Malviya Nagar. In the video, the stall’s owner, 80-year-old Kanta Prasad, shows vessels containing dal, soya curry, and other dishes that are ready to serve.

When asked how much the aged couple earn in a day, Prasad says, “Earning? This is how much we’ve earned.”

He then produced a thin bundle of Rs 10 notes from a box and said that’s all they’ve earned. The couple said they don’t earn more than Rs 80 a day, despite starting their day early at 6.30 am.

“Ever since the lockdown, life has been very difficult”, Prasad said.

The video also showed how small the stall is and as Prasad is seen wiping his tears as the video ends. The man recording the video is heard promising to help them.

Since the video was uploaded it has been viewed over 80,000 times on YouTube alone. It also prompted an outpouring of support from people, including celebrities and political leaders, all of whom sought to support the couple.

The campaign also caused #BabaKaDhaba and #Malviya Nagar to trend on Twitter and multiple people posted images and videos of their visits to the eatery after seeing the video.

“There was no sale during the lockdown but now it feels like whole India is with us,” said Prasad on Thursday.

At least seven people have died in Anhui and East China's Zhejiang province due to the virus, the report said.

A new infectious disease caused by a tick-borne virus has killed seven people and infected 60 others in china, official media here reported on Wednesday, warning about the possibility of its human-to-human transmission.

More than 37 people in East China’s Jiangsu Province contracted with the SFTS Virus in the first half of the year. Later, 23 people were found to have been infected in East China’s Anhui province, state-run Global Times quoted media reports.

SFTS Virus is not a new virus. China has isolated pathogen of the virus in 2011, and it belongs to the Bunyavirus category.

Virologists believe that the infection may have been passed on to humans by ticks and that the virus can be transmitted between humans, it said

Sheng Jifang, a doctor from the first affiliated hospital under Zhejiang University, said that the possibility of human-to-human transmission could not be excluded; patients can pass the virus to others via blood or mucous.

Doctors warned that tick bite is the major transmission route, as long as people remain cautious, there’s no need to over panic over such virus contagion, it said.

Sushant Singh Rajput death: Rhea Chakraborty moves Supreme Court, seeks transfer of probe from Patna to Mumbai

The move came a day after Rajput’s father K K Singh lodged a police complaint in Patna against Chakraborty and six others, including her family members, accusing them of abetting the actor’s suicide.

Bollywood actress Rhea Chakraborty Wednesday moved the Supreme Court seeking transfer of an FIR lodged against her in Patna to Mumbai, where probe in the death case of actor Sushant Singh Rajput is going on.

The move came a day after Rajput’s father K K Singh lodged a police complaint in Patna against Chakraborty and six others, including her family members, accusing them of abetting the actor’s suicide.

Advocate Satish Maneshinde, who is representing Chakraborty, said he has filed a petition in the apex court seeking transfer of the case from Patna to Mumbai.

In her plea, Chakraborty has also sought stay on probe by Bihar Police on the FIR lodged by Rajput’s father till disposal of her plea in top court, the lawyer said.
